Lumen Ensemble zoekt de grenzen van de expressiemogelijkheden op door buiten het originele repertoire voor viool en harp te kijken. De arrangementen van beroemde én minder bekende werken winnen daardoor enorm aan betekenis, originaliteit en orkestrale klankrijkdom.

Herontdek composities van Bloch, Ravel, Shostakovich, Vaughan Williams, Ysaye, Wagner, Pärt, Satie, Auerbach, Grieg, Chausson, Tsoupaki, Mahler, Vasks en vele anderen.

This year is almost coming to an end!🌟Meanwhile, we’ve been working on two new concert programmes��💡, making recordings of older and favorite repertoire in the beautiful Oud-Katholiek Kerk in Krommenie, and preparing the release of a new short documentary by journalist Fons de Poel.

A programme with French and nordic influences; from the recently discovered Légende norvégienne by Eugene Ysaye, high romanticism by Grieg, the surrealism of Erik Satie... to silvery northern lights by Norwegian composer Marcus Paus, hypnotic sound nuances by Arvo Pärt and.. colourful and genius music by Lera Auerbach.
When compiling this programme, the musicians were initially guided by a non-musical source of inspiration; one of the most important works by Belgian artist René Magritte; the painting L’empire des Lumières.
We see a night scene in the lower part, while above that a radiant, slightly cloudy sky is depicted. A lantern is reflected in a pond. The play of dark and light creates a surreal scene.
Magritte himself said about this: “This evocation of day and night seems to me to have the power to surprise and cheer us up. I call this power poetry.” The search for a musical equivalent of this painting then brought the duo to a surprising combination of works that, through the special arrangements for violin and harp, are placed in a new musical light and shadow play.
